FREE POST: GREEN ISSUES

This is 2017 and I can’t believe how people are not yet aware of the importance of taking care of the planet we live in. I think people should learn about “green issues” at school. Sometimes children learn how to make recycled paper and some others have workshops to learn some aspects of recycling. So, environmental-friendly practices can be definitely learnt at school and also at home.
I’ve always tried to be careful with the waste I produce. I use special bins (usually glass, plastic and organic bins) every time I can. Apart from that, I use water wisely; I learnt that in Chiloé when I was 12. It was only when we spent more than 2 weeks with a family in Nalhuitad, where they didn’t have tap water. I’m constantly thinking about ways to reduce my carbon footprint and transmitting the information so more people are aware.
I use my bike in the summer mostly. In winter it’s too cold for me and too contaminated as well but as in spring and summer is windier I tent to think that I’m not breathing so much smog. Also, as I don’t have a car, I’m always walking and taking the bus or the tube.

I support Greenpeace but only through the internet. I do that by signing emails requesting more laws or an action to stop some stupid objective of a millionaire company. I think we should support any eco-organisations if it’s because they want to take care of the planet. I’d love to make tons of copies of “The 11th Hour”, which is a documentary about the state of the Earth, considering air and water contamination mainly. Finally, in terms of the capital city, I think Santiago is missing more laws and public policies so people learn and participate in solving matters related to the environment.

Blog Session 7 :::: Sample Post

Sample Post
A subject I enjoyed this semester

As I'm not a student like you, in a university, my choice is about "topics" more than one specific subject.
I have two jobs, I work as an English teacher at Universidad de Chile and I also work as a tour guide for Puelmapu Turismo Sustentable. When I work as a local guide or as a bilingual guide, I need to study History of Chile and History in general too but more specifically, the old history of our society: before the Spaniard arrived and after that as well. For example, the life in the 16th century.

That's the first topic I enjoyed this semester and the second one is English. I really enjoy learning and studying languages in general but English is a very special language and I like studying it because I teach it and I think that's something positive in terms of the methodologies I can use in a lesson.
I also enjoy finding information about other topics that are also connected to learning languages or new ways to promote language learning.

Blog Session 6 ::: Sample Post ::: A career-related website

A career-related website

I think the most reliable website I use in terms of translations and different languages, is www.linguee.es
I think www.linguee.es is reliable not only because you can check English meanings but also the meaning of words in many different languages. You can check in a paragraph, the word or phrase you want translated and apart from having a paragraph to check the context, you can also check the website where the word or phrase you're looking for appears.

I use this website every single day for different reasons. For example, I use it to prepare classes, to translate, to plan some tours and to study languages among others. I use this online dictionary and translator, at least once a day and I think it's a really useful tool.

I know about this website because I am a translator. I graduated as a translator in 2001 and since then I've work translating different kinds of texts. I remember a colleague of mine, when we used to work together, she told me about this website and I've told a lot of more people about it.
